Top Things to See and Do in Lacock Cotswolds
Lacock Abbey
At the heart of Lacock is Lacock Abbey, one of the village’s most important landmarks. Originally founded as a convent in the 13th century, the Abbey was later a country house. Today, visitors enjoy its fascinating blend of medieval, Tudor, and Georgian history. There is an entry fee to visit the Abbey and its grounds, though it’s free to National Trust Members.
- Inside the Abbey, explore the elegant historic rooms, which reflect centuries of changing tastes and ownership.
- Fox Talbot Museum: the museum celebrates the history of photography and Talbot’s contributions.
- Abbey Cloister: The medieval cloisters are among the most famous parts of the Abbey, instantly recognizable to many visitors as filming locations for Harry Potter.
Pro Tip: The Abbey rooms are closed for deep cleaning during the winter (typically November 1 – March 1). The Cloisters, Fox Talbot Museum, Stables Cafe, and gardens are open year-round.

- Gardens and Grounds: take time to wander the woodland paths, botanic gardens, and open meadows. Even if you’re short on time or visiting in winter, the Abbey grounds alone are worth visiting, especially if you’re combining Lacock with nearby villages or Bath.

Lacock Village Streets
Wander through High Street and East Street to admire half-timbered houses and cozy stone cottages. Some of our favorite stops in town are:
- Tithe Barn (14th century restored tithe barn, originally used by the nuns at the Abbey to store grain)
- Bide Brook Ford (scenic and small tributary to the River Avon, with an 18th century bridge)
- The Stable Tea Rooms (next to the Red Lion Car Park)

- Barty’s of Lacock (eco store) was one of our favorite finds for unique gifts as we wandered through Lacock Village.

- Church of St. Cyriac: A beautiful parish church dating back to the 15th century.

Top Filming Locations in Lacock Cotswolds
As you’re wandering around the Abbey and the village, keep an eye out for familiar backdrops from Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, and BBC’s Pride and Prejudice. Lacock is compact, and all major filming locations are within a 5–10 minute walk of each other.
| Film / TV Show | Key Filming Locations in Lacock | Notes |

| Downton Abbey | Church of St. Cyriac, village streets | Filmed as village scenes; church exterior is freely accessible |

Hello! Lacock looks like a nice alternative to other Cotswolds villages. The Cotswolds area is usually quite over-crowded, but Lacock seems to be so peaceful and quiet.
It generally was not very crowded, though we did see a few tour buses parked there.
