Why Visit the Cascais Christmas Market?
Cascais combines historic charm, windswept coastal scenery, easy access, and mild winter temperatures with festive lights and holiday markets. The Cascais Christmas Market experience is both festive and relaxed. Just steps from the train station, enjoy traditional wooden holiday market stalls. Afterwards, walk through the pedestrian friendly streets of Cascais, lit up for the holiday season. For those looking for family-friendly attractions, such as a Santa House, holiday trams, and ice skating rinks, add a visit to Cascais Vila Natal (Christmas Village). It’s the perfect winter escape for travelers staying in Lisbon, Cascais, or along the Portuguese Riviera in between.

Ferris Wheel Over Cascais Bay
Walking towards the Cascais bay area, it’s hard to miss the Ferris Wheel and the towering Christmas tree. The paid ferris wheel rides offer stunning nighttime views over the Atlantic, historic Citadela fortress.
Pro Tip: There has historically been a ferris wheel by the bay at Christmas-time. Unfortunately, this is not set up so far for 2025, and it is unclear what the plans are for future years.

The combination of traditional wooden stalls and sea views gives this market a uniquely coastal feel. Browse the many stalls along the bay, with their:

Cascais Vila Natal (Christmas Village)
The heart of Cascais’ holiday celebration for many families is Vila de Natal. Held in Parque Marechal Carmona and extending into the adjacent Hipódromo Manuel Possolo, this year’s Christmas Village is bigger than ever.

Oh my gosh, I have been to Cascais twice on day trips from Lisbon but never in the winter! I didn’t know they had a Christmas market, so this was really fun to read!
Hope you have a chance to visit the market!
The Cascais Christmas Market sounds totally worth it! So fun!
Thanks!
Hello! I’ve never thought of visiting Christmas markets in Southern Europe. But this one looks pretty much interesting! It seems to be very unusual to have a Christmas market without snow at all. When it snows, it gives a special mood. But I guess, Southern winters also creat a special atmosphere which is probably more relaxing.
Christmas markets do feel different without the snow, but they have their own seaside vibe to enjoy!
This market looks so unique. And I bet, not as cold as some of the other Christmas markets in Europe!
Yes, generally not as cold as some of the other markets.
Cascais Christmas market looks so pretty, I’ve never visited Portugal in winter, but this time going there in December and hope to see some Christmas markets
Hope you enjoy exploring the Portuguese Christmas markets. We’ve visited quite a few of them, and have enjoyed most all.
I love a good Christmas market. This is such a great family friendly activity too.
It is a fun event for the family!
The Spanish do Christmas really well, I think. Each time I was in Spain in December, I was surprised at how beautiful everything was decorated.
I haven’t had a chance to explore many Spanish markets at Christmas, but I’d love to see how they compare to Portugal’s markets.
This looks so quaint. I love the idea of it being by the seaside. My daughter would go nuts for this – she’s such a Christmas lover
Hope you have a chance to explore this seaside market with your daughter.
This is such an in-depth yet inspiring piece! I can feel your love for these markets! Thanks for all the information. The article is very detailed and helps in planning a trip there
Thank you for the feedback!
What a lovely guide! Cascais looks absolutely magical during the holidays, and I love that it’s only a quick 30–40 minute train ride from Lisbon. The mix of seaside charm, twinkling lights, and the Christmas Village with its ice rink and Santa’s House sounds perfect. And the waterfront Ferris wheel over Baía de Cascais? That view must be incredible at night. Adding this festive market to my Portugal wish list for sure!
It is such a convenient festive area to explore from Lisbon. Hope you have a chance to visit in future.
Such a pretty town and looks stunning in the festive season
with the vibrant colours…
Thanks! Cascais is a pretty town any time of year, as you mention. The holiday season adds to the experience.
The Cascais Christmas Market looks charming. Unfortunately we are not heading to Lisbon until the new year so will just miss this treat. A very different look for this great beach town. It would have been fun to ride the ferris wheel.
Glad you are able to visit again in the new year!
Your guide to the Cascais Christmas Market is such a gem — I loved reading about the stalls along the waterfront and the cozy holiday treats like hot chocolate and mulled wine that make the whole experience feel so festive.
Thank you for the feedback!
What a fabulous article celebrating a beautiful place that looks extra magical during the festivities. The views from the Ferris wheel must be outstanding.
The views are amazing!
The Christmas Market in Cascais looks super magical! Definitely need to put it on my list! 🙂
Thank you for the feedback!
We are actually headed to Europe next week for Christmas Markets, but are not going to this one. I’ll keep this idea in my pocket for next time. I do love Portugal and hope to get back there soon.
Though the Christmas markets in Portugal aren’t on the scale of some of those in Germany, they are a great way to top off a day of exploring the area.
What a charming article! The Cascais Christmas market sounds absolutely magical. I loved the photos of the lights and stalls.
Thank you for the feedback!
I really appreciate how you highlighted not only the festive atmosphere and charming stalls, but also that the market is easily accessible by public transport. That makes such a difference for travelers who don’t want to worry about driving and parking.
Parking can definitely be a challenge in the area, so we’d highly recommend public transport.
I loved cascais when I visited in the summer, thanks for sharing this guide! Bet it’s magical at Christmas
It is wonderful at Christmas time, though of course not quite as warm as in summer.
Another Christmas market added to my to visit list of the Christmas period. The stalls along the bay look so festive with all the lights.
It is quite beautiful with the stalls right along the bay!
The Cascais Christmas Market sounds magical! I might make it there this year. Thanks for the tip 🙂
Hope you enjoy it if you can make it there!
This looks like such an ideal Christmas market for families! My kids would LOVE this!
The traditional market and Christmas Village are both fun options for families!
