Kotor, Montenegro, is a stunning walled medieval town nestled along the dramatic Bay of Kotor. Often compared to Dubrovnik—but with a quieter, more intimate feel—this UNESCO World Heritage town blends centuries of history with charming stone lanes, lively squares, and spectacular mountain and bay scenery. While many visitors arrive on cruise ships and only spend a few hours in town, we’d argue that Kotor deserves at least 2–3 days to fully experience its historic sites, scenic viewpoints, hiking trails, waterfront atmosphere, and incredible food scene.
Choosing where to stay in Kotor can shape your experience. Staying inside Old Town Kotor lets you wander the cobblestone streets before the day-trippers arrive, enjoy the town’s lively evenings after the cruise crowds depart, and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of centuries-old stone buildings and hidden courtyards. Whether you’re looking for a luxury boutique hotel, a historic apartment, or a budget-friendly stay full of character, here are our favorite unique places to stay in Old Town Kotor—plus a few peaceful alternatives just outside the walls with beautiful Bay of Kotor views.
