  • Royal Arch Trail – this 3.3 mile steep climb from Chautauqua Park ends at a natural rock arch with sweeping views over the city.

  • Horsetooth Falls Loop Trail – just a few miles west of Fort Collins, this easy-moderate 2.5 mile roundtrip takes you past a beautiful waterfall, especially pretty in spring
  • Horsetooth Falls and Horsetooth Mountain Loop – enjoy a 6.0 mile moderate option, leading past Horsetooth Falls and Horsetooth Rock, among others. Enjoy panoramic views over Horsetooth Reservoir.
  • Arthur’s Rock Trail – in Lory State Park is a fun moderate 3.2 mile round trip hike, leading to beautiful views.

Named a Platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community, Fort Collins is ideal for both city and nature rides:

  • Rent a bike and explore the 250 miles of bike lanes and paths within Fort Collins,
  • Spring Creek Trail, Fossil, and Power Trails are scenic, well-maintained routes through town,
  • The Poudre River Trail, a 21-mile paved multi-use path, runs from Greeley to nearby Windsor,
  • Enjoy a guided or self-guided Brew Cruise, exploring the local craft brew scene,
  • Horsetooth Mountain open space is a great mountain biking destination (in addition to hiking).

Though Boulder and Fort Collins are land-locked, they have a surprising amount of water sports to enjoy.

  • Horsetooth Reservoir is Fort Collins’ go-to spot for kayaking, paddleboarding, boating, rowing, swimming, and even cliff jumping.
  • Inlet Bay Marina on Horsetooth Reservoir offers kayak, canoe, SUP, hydro-bike, as well as motorized boat rentals (jetski’s, ski boats, and fishing boats.
  • Cache la Poudre River is the go to spot for whitewater rafting and fly fishing in the Fort Collins area.

Boulder Winter Sports

  • Alpine skiing: The closest alpine skiing and snowboarding is at Eldora Mountain Resort (~40 min away);
  • Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing can be done at Eldora Mountain Resort, or at nearby areas like Brainard Lake and Caribou Ranch. Boulder Nordic Club grooms the trails at North Boulder Park when there is enough snow;
  • Winter hiking and snow-dusted trail running is very popular with locals.

Fort Collins Winter Sports

  • Alpine skiing: The closest alpine skiing to Fort Collins is Eldora Mountain Resort, though it takes at least 1 hour 40 minutes;
  • Cross country skiing: There are a variety of moderate-challenging cross country ski trails in Cache la Poudre River Canyon. Across the border in Wyoming (about a 1 hour 20 minute drive), Happy Jack Recreation Area has groomed trails when snow conditions permit. When there is enough snow in town, the City Park 9-Hole Course can be used for cross country skiing.
  • Snowshoeing: Enjoy snowshoe-friendly hikes at Lory State Park and Horseshoe Mountain Open Space.
